Obedience Classes

AKC STAR Puppy Class $130 + current vaccines

In this 6 week course, you and your puppy will learn about proper socialization, basic foundation skills, (sit, dow, come, loose leash walking, leave it, drop it, stay, and more!), how to implement structure, address problem behaviors (jumping, mouthing, biting, chewing, housebreaking, and more) and learn about puppy grooming health and so much more. This class includes off-lease play and we will teach them a few tricks too! If you have a puppy, this class will start you and your puppy off on the right paw! This is also a Puppy AKC STAR class which is open to all dogs and your puppy can earn a medal from the AKC (whether he or she is a purebred or not) by passing the STAR test (optional in this class). Show the world you have a STAR puppy!

NOTE: This course is limited to puppies ages 20 weeks at graduation. This age limitation is due to puppies mental maturity and growth not size limit. Puppies of all shapes and sizes can play and socialize together, their mental maturity is the distinguishing factor and how they respond to each other in play, correction, and socialization; hence our age limitation.

Beginner Obedience $150 + current vaccines

In this 6 week course we work on obedience and how to apply obedience to real life, address problematic issues like jumping, nipping, stealing, counter surfing, etc. plus work with you on specific problems you may be encountering with your dog. We will cover sit, down, stay, recall, loose leash walking, drop it, leave it, and even some tricks. We will teach you how to introduce distance distraction and duration to the skills your dog learns to help solidify those cues.

NOTE:  This class is perfect for dogs ages 5 months and older (and no dog is too old!).

Advanced Obedience $150 + current vaccines

This 6 week course will really solidify the basic obedience commands. We will work with the 3 "D's" of dog training, adding distance, duration, and distraction to all of the basic obedience cues you have worked on. Some of this class may be held outdoors. A beginner obedience class (from here or elsewhere) and a solid understanding of the basic obedience cues is a pre-requisite to this class.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) $155 + current vaccines

This 6 week course is open to any age or breed; however, dogs must have completed all vaccination and know sit, down, sit-stay, down-stay, come and loose leash walking reliably. An obedience class and/or AKC STAR class is recommended prior to this class. The CGC certification shows your dog is a polite pup in public, and it is now a recognized title to place on your dog! Class includes certification testing week #6 of class.

AKC Community Canine $155 + current vaccines

AKC Community Canine is the advanced level of AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program. As with CGC, AKC Community Canine has a 10-step test of skills that dogs must pass to earn the official AKC Community Canine title. This is a title that appears on the dog's title record at AKC. All skills on the test are tested on a leash. The AKC Community Canine (CGCA) test may be done in a class, at shows, in pet stores, or in the community. When the test is administered in community settings such as a business or special event, evaluators must have the necessary approval of the business owners, etc. While Canine Good Citizen tests are simulations of real work skills, (e.g. dog/handler walks through a "crowd" of evaluators ring), the goal of the AKC Community Canine is to test the dog's skills in a natural setting. For example, rather than the dog being testing in a ring, in AKC Community Canine, the "walks through a crowd" test item will involve the dog walking through a real crowd at a dog show, on a busy sidewalk, in a therapy dog setting, or at a training club.

To earn the AKC Community Canine title, dogs must meet the following two requirements:

1) Must already have a Canine Good Citizen (CG) award or title on record at AKC.

2) Must have at least one of the following AKC number types: AKC Registration number, PAL number, or AKC Canine Partners number. All dogs, including mixed breeds,, can get an AKC number. The reason for the requirement is that this is how we create titles at AKC; we attach the titles to the dog's number. For more information on getting an AKC number, please visit http://images.akc.org/cgc/number.pdf .

C.L.A.S.S. Series $125 + current vaccines

C.L.A.S.S. or Canine Life and Social Skills is an educational program to promote training focused on the use of positive reinforcement and to strengthen relationships between humans and their canine companions. C.L.A.S.S. is a three-level evaluation for dog owners to demonstrate the real-life skills of their dogs, as well as a knowledge assessment of the owners' understanding of basic dog handling and care. Developed by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) based on input from both dog owners and non-dog owners, shelter workers, and professional dog trainers, C.L.A.S.S. benefits pet owners, dogs, and everyone in the community!

The three levels of the program are named after human university degree programs: the B.A. for Dogs (Bachelor's level), the M.A. for Dogs (Master's level), and the Ph.D. for Dogs (Doctorate level). The skills in each level vary in the level of difficulty and distractions.

C.L.A.S.S. B.A.: we allow the use of treats as rewards after the completion of an exercise, and some of the "real life" skills that are assessed are waiting at the door, drop it, and settle.

C.L.A.S.S. M.A: dogs are asked to walk past several dogs of different sizes, breeds, and genders, to wait in the car before exiting, and to allow the student to handle various parts of their body.

C.L.A.S.S. Ph.D.: students must carry everyday objects such as a cardboard box or paper sack while walking their dogs on a loose leash, ask their dogs to back up. and have their dog demonstrate table manners during a simulated dinner session. Each level also allows for two "bonus rounds" that students may elect to try or not with their dog.

I Am Free (Off-Leash Training) $170 + current vaccines

This 6-week course is basic obedience and good manners off-leash! Prerequisite: Dogs must have taken an obedience class from The Canine Campus or another training facility.

Impulse Control $155 + current vaccines

Is your dog barky? Do they jump over everyone? Do they steal things? Maybe they are demanding? All of these issues are a result of poor impulse control. This 6-week class helps to teach your dog impulse control. Dogs are not good at impulse control. Their frontal lobe is the least advanced part of their brain and one of the functions of the frontal lobe is impulse control. In this class, your dog will learn how to have better self-control. They will learn to be patient through the work we do. The more you practice working on impulse control the better your dog will be all the way around!

Impulse Control Extreme $155 + current vaccines

Take your dog's impulse control to the next level! For 6 weeks, we will work on Impulse Control exercises in increasingly distracting areas by taking our impulse control training on the road. We will practice outside and increase the challenge level to help take your dog's self-control to the next level.

Recall $150 + current vaccines

Town & City $155 + current vaccines

This 6-week class tests your dog's obedience skills at a different location every week! Some in the city, some in the country. We will add distraction from both (as well as being outside) to make your dog a well-rounded canine citizen.

Heeling & Attention $155 + current vaccines

Tired of your dog dragging you down the street? This 6 week course focuses solely on teaching your dog how to walk loosely on leash and not pull you! We will also discuss appropriate products to use to teach this (NOTE - no chokers, prongs or electronic collars permitted at our facility - but you don't need them!!). The number one complaint of owners is that they can't walk their dog without feeling like their arm is being pulled off! Having a dog that walks nicely by you makes for a pleasant walking experience. This class will involve mainly outside work (so dress appropriately) as well as off site walking at a local park to give owners real life practice. You will be walking the entire class so be prepared for lots of exercises! Class is limited to 6 students. Please note that class times are held earlier in the morning or later in the evening due to the heat during the summer months and classes may get pushed due to weather.
